Airport Changes Underway
The Thief River Falls Regional Airport is
undergoing numerous changes. In July, the City of
Thief River Falls and Pennington County entered into
an agreement forming an Airport Authority. This
Authority was formed to increase the stakeholders to
include all of Pennington County in addition to the
residents of Thief River Falls. This will spread the
cost of operations over a larger tax base and allow
the airport to keep up with regional industry
infrastructure needs and facilitate economic growth
in Northwest Minnesota. The Airport Authority Board
Members are Glen Kajewski, Don Jensen, Darryl
Tveitbakk, Steve Nordhagen and Nancy Tofte.
The Airport currently has
two major construction projects underway. A 19,800 S.F.
Multi-Purpose Hangar

here for a picture) is being built to provide a
controlled environment for loading and housing freight aircraft.
Approximately 1,000,000 packages are shipped from your airport annually.
This facility is needed to guarantee reliability of these operations and
assure continued economic growth. The majority of this building is being
funded through a $2,097,000 State of Minnesota Bonding Bill Grant.
The second large project
under construction is a Terminal remodel. This project consists of both
Terminal and ARFF buildings reroof along with new HVAC. The terminal
will also receive new ceiling tile, lighting, interior and exterior
doors, paint, carpet and furnishings. This is a $469,000 project with
$413,000 coming from State and Federal Funds. During the remodel project
Delta Airlines, Hertz Car Rental and Thief River Aviation will remain
open for business.
